You may not need expensive serums or toners, but body butter is a must-have. And finding the best one for yourself can be confusing, considering the bombardment of options on the market. Then why not make your own instead of raking through the internet?
To ease things for you, we’ve compiled some of the easiest mango body butter recipes. Read on to know more!
Benefits Of A Mango Body Butter Recipe
Mango butter offers similar benefits as shea and cocoa butter, but it’s a better moisturizer, owing to its higher fatty acid content [1]. Despite that, it has a lighter composition and doesn’t feel heavy or sticky on the skin like other types of butter. So, if you want a non-comedogenic moisturizer that won’t clog your pores, mango butter is an excellent choice.

Furthermore, it provides UV protection and has medicinal capabilities to fight insect bites, eczema, rashes, and other skin irritations. It is rich in antioxidants and triterpenes, and is also a potent anti-ager that prevents and heals wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet.
What’s more, the abundance of stearic and oleic acid makes mango butter a one-stop solution for multiple skin problems. These emollients soothe and soften both skin and hair, so no matter the site of dryness, mango butter will keep you hydrated.
Mango Body Butter Recipes
Mango body butter can be a little expensive for those on a tight budget. But, it can easily be made using ingredients commonly found at home. So, we compiled a list of easy and effective DIY mango body butter recipes that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
1. Mandarin And Mango Body Butter
Mandarin is loaded with vitamin C and defends the skin from free radicals. It tones and purifies the skin, keeping it young and radiant for a long time [2]. Along with the antioxidants and fatty acids of mango, this body butter becomes an effective combination to keep your skin at its prime.
Ingredients List:
- ⅛ cup of coconut oil
- ⅛ cup of jojoba oil
- Quarter cup of mango butter
- 5 drops of mandarin essential oil
Preparation Method:
First off, pour the coconut and mango butter into a jar and place it in a double boiler half-filled with water. Heat the boiler over low heat for roughly ten to fifteen minutes until the butter melts. You can then transfer the mixture to another bowl and add the jojoba oil, mixing the butter thoroughly.
Now, place the bowl in a refrigerator and let it cool for about half an hour. Then take it out and whip using a blender or a stand mixture until you have a thick consistency. Finally, add the mandarin essential oil and transfer the butter to a plastic container or a glass jar. And voila, your body butter is ready in less than an hour!
2. Whipped Ultra-Moisturizing Mango Body Butter
Next up, we have the recipe for whipped body butter that can easily moisturize the driest skin. It is made with several hydrating oils and is probably the best recipe for damaged and dehydrated skin. So, if you live in a cold region and often suffer from dryness, you may take notes for this one.
Ingredients List:
- 1/2 cup of carrier oil like sunflower or olive
- 1/2 cup of coconut oil
- 1/2 cup of unrefined shea or cocoa butter
- One teaspoon of Vitamin E (preservative)
- Two tablespoons of arrowroot powder (faster absorption)
Preparation Method:
To start off, mix the butter with coconut oil in a saucepan or a double boiler and melt over a low flame. Once melted, keep the mix at the same temperature for the next twenty minutes. You can then take it off the stove and place it in an ice bath after transferring the mixture to a heat-stable bowl.
Now, mix the sunflower or olive oil with arrowroot powder and vitamin E oil in a separate container using a fork. This will prevent lump formation, giving a uniform consistency to the mix. Check if the butter blend is hardened halfway, which means the base is solid, but the top still has some liquid. If that’s the case, pour it into the carrier oil mixture; if not, leave it in the ice bath for a few more minutes.
Moving on, blend the two semi-solid mixtures using a stand mixer until all the hardened butter pieces are dissolved. Note that they will stick to the sidewalls and bottom of the container, so you’ll have to scrape them off while blending. When the butter is reasonably solid, you can scoop it in the desired container and let it get firm overnight.
3. Citrus Mango Body Butter
Packed with the qualities of two vitamin C enriched fruits [3] and the goodness of almond oil, our next recipe is a nutritious blend made to soothe dried and aging skin. This one can ward off free radical damage and give your skin a delicate rosy touch, so keep reading to learn the recipe.
Ingredients List:
- 1/2 cup of cocoa and mango butter
- 1/2 cup of sweet almond and coconut oil
- Five drops of lemon essential oil
- Ten drops of orange essential oil
Preparation Method:
This one is the easiest and quickest recipe on our list, and you’ll be done within half an hour. To begin with, heat the cocoa and mango butter in a boiler over low heat until they melt. Take it off the stove after liquefaction and whisk in the coconut and sweet almond oil till uniform consistency.
After that, whip the mixture at high speed for five to eight minutes to make it soft and fluffy. Add the almond and orange essential oils and keep beating the mixture for a couple of more minutes. When happy with the texture, transfer it to the final container and use it twice a day for healthy skin.
4. Bergamot Mochaccino Mango Butter
Moving ahead with our list, our next mango body butter recipe contains the antioxidant properties of fresh coffee beans [4] with the hydration of mango. Add to it the freshness of bergamot, and you have the best recipe for plump and luscious skin.
Ingredients List:
- 1/2 cup of mango and mochaccino butter
- 1/2 cup of olive oil
- Two tablespoons of bergamot essential oil
Preparation Method:
You know the drill; mix all the butter with olive oil and melt it over a medium flame. Next, transfer it to another bowl and let it cool for half an hour, while adding bergamot essential oil. Once the temperature is lowered, you can beat it for about ten minutes using a hand mixer.
The butter will be ready after thorough whipping, and we recommend storing it in an airtight container. This will save the oil from oxidizing into the air, keeping the body butter fragrant for a longer period.
5. Ultra-Moisturizing Mango Body Butter From Heaven
Does no amount of moisturizing stop your skin from flaking due to dryness? Then you need an exceptionally potent moisturizer like our next recipe – mango butter from heaven. This one is a blend of multiple nourishing oils and butter that work together to make the skin soft and supple.
Ingredients List:
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1/2 cup cocoa or mango butter
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 cup rosehip seed, grapeseed, or almond oils
- One teaspoon vitamin E
- Two tablespoons arrowroot powder
Preparation Method:
Put all the types of butter in a double boiler along with coconut oil and wait for them to melt. Let the mixture sit on low flame for twenty minutes to firm up. Take it off the stove and let it cool for fifteen to twenty minutes.
At the same time, take another bowl and mix all the liquid oils, arrowroot powder, and vitamin E using a fork. You can add it to the boiler when the butter mixture partially hardens, ensuring there is no lump formation. Blend both the mixes using a hand blender until there are no hardened butter lumps.
However, if arrowroot powder and vitamin E are added too soon, the butter won’t get enough time to solidify. To fix that, put the bowl in an ice bath for four to five minutes and beat it again. When it is hardened enough, scoop it in a glass jar and leave overnight.
6. Mango And Lemon Body Butter
If your skin has aged prematurely, then mango and lemon butter will do you good. Lemon has a high amount of vitamin C that reduces aging and skin damage, while mango restores the water balance.
Ingredients List:
- 10g jojoba wax or beeswax
- 25g mango butter and cocoa butter
- 30g shea butter
- One teaspoon vitamin E oil
- One teaspoon sweet almond oil
- 10 drops lemon and mandarin essential oil each
Preparation Method:
Melt all the types of butter and wax in a bain-marie (or double boiler) and heat the mix for twenty minutes. Add vitamin E and almond oil and wait until everything liquefies. Take the boiler off the stove and let it cool, thoroughly stirring the essential oils into it afterward. You can then keep the whipped mango butter in a clean and dry airtight container.
About The Ingredients
Mango body butter is an excellent emollient for the skin, but you cannot make it without adding other essential oils to it, and here’s why:
1. Shea Butter
Rich in fatty acids like palmitic, linoleic, stearic, and oleic, shea butter improves the skin’s natural protective barrier. It also shields the skin from harmful environmental pollution and soothes irritated skin because of its anti-inflammatory properties [5].
2. Cocoa Butter
Cocoa butter is a beneficial addition to body butter as it softens at body temperature, adding a creamy texture and thick consistency to creams, lotions, and body butter. Additionally, it contains vitamin E, which has antioxidant qualities.
3. Coconut Oil
This oil is unique because of its low molecular weight and efficient protein binding that enables it to penetrate the skin deeply. Hence, it can be helpful for people with eczema [6] and reduce inflammation typically caused by UVB rays.
Furthermore, it has antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties to promote wound healing. When added to mango body butter, the oil adds to its healing and moisturizing abilities, giving the user all-around protection from dryness, inflammation, and UV damage.
4. Carrier Oil
The primary function of carrier oil is to dilute the essential oils in the body butter and “carry” their benefits to the skin. Essential oils are heavily concentrated and can cause skin irritation on direct application.
That’s why carrier oils have an unscented formula that doesn’t interfere with their properties and simply aids their absorption in the skin [7]. Some of the best carrier oils for mango butter are olive oil, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin E oil.
5. Essential Oils
Often used in aromatherapy, essential oils add natural fragrances to the body butter, without involving any synthetic elements. They help with stress and have a calming effect on both the mind and skin [8]; this might be the reason skincare feels so therapeutic. Different oils have numerous benefits, but bergamot, ylang-ylang, tea-tree, and mandarin are the best for the skin.
7. Arrowroot Powder
Since the butter is oil-based, it can feel greasy on oily skin types. Adding arrowroot powder [9] and cornstarch counters the oil and balances the texture of the body butter.
Final Words
Mango body butter is one of the best moisturizing skincare products that can be easily made at home using natural ingredients. So, no worries if you are running on a tight budget because our DIY mango body butter recipes include only affordable and easily available ingredients.
That said, we’ll sign off for the day. Take care!
